Chelsea manager Lampard consoles Mount after missed penalty in Spurs loss

The 21-year-old has the manager's full backing despite his miss cost Chelsea place in the 5th round of the EFL Cup.

"I don’t think it should be a shattering blow," Frank Lampard told the post-Tottenham presser of Mason Mount's missed penalty attempt.

"It is a disappointing night to get knocked out of the Carabao Cup, but Mason will have many more nights for this club and his country when he will play in games with huge importance on them and he will be the deciding factor in a positive way.

"He has my support at all times, and the team’s and everyone around him. You miss a penalty and it is a collective when you get this far in a game like this."

Chelsea's EFL Cup fourth-round tie with Spurs was sent to penalties after a 1-1 draw in regular time. The Blues lost the shootout due to Mount missing a decisive penalty.
