former Arsenal full-back backs Bergkamp to join Arteta's coaching staff

Ex-Gunner Nigel Winterburn believes it makes a lot of sense to bring Dennis Bergkamp back to north London and hand him a coaching role at the club.

"I’m a big advocate for players that have been successful at your club – so long as they have the right coaching credentials – to come back to a football club, particularly one of Dennis Bergkamp’s ilk," the retired full-back told Gambling.com.

"He was a wonderful player who won a lot of trophies and is well regarded within Arsenal, so if his coaching credentials match up with what Mikel Arteta wants, he could potentially come back to the club in some sort of role, whether it’s at junior level or senior."

The Iceman has been linked with a return to North London quite recently - it is claimed that Arteta would love to have someone of Bergkamp's stature on his staff.

The Dutchman himself openly stated he would we glad to come back, although it was some time ago. Dennis currently works as a volunteer for Almere City, having quit Ajax 3 years ago.

Interestingly enough, Arsene Wenger echoed Nigel Winterburn's words not so long ago (or is the other way around?) when the Frenchman talked about Bayern Munich's sustained period of domination.

We think there are a number of former players that Arsenal can bring back to help the club with football expertise and authority - Dennis Bergkamp is certainly not the only one. Hopefully we'll see some of those in the dugout sooner rather than later.
