Frank Lampard message to Chelsea young stars: 'If you're at Chelsea, you're going to get competition year-on-year'

Frank Lampard has explained how he plans to integrate Chelsea's new signings into the squad and how it would affect the Blues' younger players, some of which impressed so much last season.

"I do have an idea of what I want to do," the boss told BBC Radio 5 Live. "It certainly won't be stepping on the toes of the younger players.

I think what the younger players did last season was show their quality. It's normal as a younger player, you have different challenges and different steps on the ladder.

"Step one, get in the team and do well, get a lot of praise. Step two, if you're at a club like Chelsea, you're going to get competition year-on-year.

Can you react to that and would it be a positive reaction? I'm not concerned about the young players, they're going to be a big part of our plans.

"The ones that were there last year will definitely be involved. The one thing I definitely felt as manager was that when I couldn't bring players in, I couldn't make changes in how I wanted us to play in terms of personnel.

"It always helps when you're fresh and you're new that you can bring in some players and say, 'This is the way I want to go'. So, I feel like I will have more options now to move forward."

Chelsea have done a sensational job on the transfer market as they have already signed as many as 7 new players, including 5 potential starters.

After completing the deals for Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Xavier Mbuyamba, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz, the Blues are looking for more: Edouard Mendy is set to be announced as a Chelsea player in the coming days while Declan Rice remains a less probable target.
