'He put in another incredible performance': Arteta impressed with Lacazette performance despite big miss vs Liverpool

Alex looked very distraught after the game and Mikel says this is because of his desire to win.

The boss is delighted with the striker's performance, even though he wasted a clear-cut chance to put Arsenal level.

"They want to win and this is what I like," Mikel Arteta said when asked about Alex Lacazette looking shattered after the substitution.

"The mindset of the team is that they want to go to any ground and they want to win.

"The boys were really disappointed to lose the game because they really believed that they could come here and do it. For large periods of the game we were there.

"Obviously he [Laca] had the best chance in the game to make it 2-2, and then again put us in a really strong position, but he had a great game. He put in another incredible performance and I'm pleased with him."

The French striker opened the scoring in a real poacher's fashion, capitalising on Andy Robertson's mistake. He then wasted two great chances to equalise in the second half.

Despite missing two one-on-ones (one would have been ruled offside though), his relentless pressing, tendency to drop deep and provide a forward option in the build-up made him a crucial part of Mikel Arteta's plan to tame Liverpool yesterday.
