The fans actually watch Barca's games because of Puig, Stephen Nicol claims and they will be frustrated to see one of their 'favourite heroes' leaving, he adds.
"I think Koeman will need this young guy [Puig] for off-the-pitch reasons too. A lot of fans will already be against him but now he's sending away one of their favourite heroes," former Liverpool defender Stephen Nicol has told ESPN.
"The fans actually come to watch him [Puig], because they don't have much else to come for right now. I would have kept hold of him and tried to get him on the pitch as much as possible," the 58-year-old added.
On Saturday, Ronald Koeman confirmed that he'd prefer a loan move for Riqui Puig, explaining that the latter is not guaranteed to have much game time in the new season.
Koeman didn't include Puig in the match squad for Barcelona's Elche game. That's despite the 21-year-old putting in great performances in the previous friendlies against Gimnastic and Girona.
