The United boss has highlighted three areas where the club fell short.
He also believes that this is no time for excuses.
When asked about the 1-3 loss to Crystal Palace, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told the official Man United website: "I am very disappointed. I think it shows that we are short.
"We are short in game-time, fitness, sharpness and we need to improve quickly. These were three points that we wanted and we needed.
"There are 37 games to go, but this is a wake-up call. But it is also something that we knew we had to face when we went so far into Europe.
"We had a short preparation time, but that is the reality so there are no excuses."
The Red Devils only played one pre-season game against Aston Villa while the Eagles played four - in addition to playing two competitive games in 2020/21 already.
United started the season a week later due to European commitments from last term but Ole is right - this is no time for excuses.
We have a game against Luton Town next in the Carabao Cup followed by a tough game against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium - a place where we've not been very lucky in the past.
