La Liga President maintain his words Messi's €700m release clause still valid and happy to avoid legal battle though

The La Liga president claims the contract clearly stipulates that the clause is still active for the 2020-2021 campaign.

Still, Tebas appears to be relieved not to lose Leo in the courtroom.

"The contract is clear," La Liga president Javier Tebas told Marca when asked on the recent controversy regarding Leo Messi's €700m release clause.

"One part got taken out of context and that led to an error."

Yet, Tebas appeared to be relieved not to lose the Barcelona marksman.

He concluded: "In the end, the important thing and the thing that makes us happy is that Messi has decided to avoid a legal battle and to keep on playing at his lifelong club."

Last week, Messi's legal team published a statement, insisting that the €700m release clause isn't valid Leo's final year of the current contract. However, both Barca and La Liga claimed the opposite.
