Lampard believes Thiago Silva could be the one to lead Chelsea's defence like John Terry.

The Blues haven't really replaced him since then and Lampard believes Silva could be the one to lead Chelsea's defence like Terry.

“I think so,” Frank Lampard said on BBC Radio 5 Live when asked if his Chelsea lacked a defensive leader last season.

“Leaders like John Terry are not very common. It probably was something we missed – a vocal presence at the back.

“When you have a quiet team who don’t want to talk it is very hard sometimes.

“We work on it but I hope Thiago will bring it naturally. He has generally been captain of the team he has played in and had a lot of success.

“When I watched him in the run-up to the Champions League final he looked fit, he looked hungry and the conversations that I have had with him have been the same.”

As you might have noticed the Blues have indeed failed to fully replace John Terry who left the Bridge three year ago. Thiago Silva doesn't look like a long-term replacement for the Englishman as the Brazilian turns 36 later this month.

Silva will not feature in Monday's season opener against Brighton but could be available for Liverpool's visit to West London next Sunday.
