The Brazilian centre-back has only joined the training sessions this week.
His leadership qualities are already evident to the manager, even though his English is not great.
Thiago leads by example, however, and is already respected by his teammates and the coaching staff.
"Thiago is certainly a leader. He brings that with him by nature," Frank Lampard said at a press conference as quoted by the official Chelsea website.
"He doesn’t speak the language that great, something we’re working on very quickly, but we have a lot of players in the squad who are multi-lingual and help with that.
"By presence, by attitude in training, by the quality of the player, he commands respect. I look forward to having him around. He already seems very engaging and intent on helping the team, and that’s all you can ask for as a coach."
Thiago Silva is yet to play his first game for the Blues, and it won't be this Sunday as Lampard has ruled him out of the Liverpool fixture.
It's understandable: the veteran only started training with his new team this week, and he will need to work on his fitness before he's ready to play.
