Lyon confirms interest in Barcelona center back Umtiti but looking at the financial possibility

Meanwhile, Barca are looking to offload the Frenchman.

Talking to Telefoot (h/t Diario Sport), Lyon's coach Rudi Garcia confirmed the club's interest in Barcelona's defender Samuel Umtiti.

"We have talked about it, of course. Umtiti is a great defender, but I don't know if the operation is financially possible," the French coach said. "I would like to, but I think it will not be feasible."

As for Barca, they are trying to sell the defender as he's not part of Ronald Koeman's plans for the next season. However, up until now, the club hasn't received any offers on Umtiti.

'Big Sam' has a contract with the Catalans until 2023. It's said that he is earning €12m per season, this being the main reason why Blaugrana want to part ways with the defender.

The Frenchman is a graduate of Lyon's academy, having recorded 170 matches, five goals and three assists between 2012 and 2016.
