Lyon president reveals that Josep Maria Bartomeu had told him on Sunday that Barca couldn't afford the Dutchman.
Barcelona have suffered a lot during the Covid pandemic, he explained.
"On Sunday, Barca president told me they are suffering a lot during this Covid pandemic and they had no possibility of making an offer [for Memphis Depay]," Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has tweeted.
The asking price for Depay is said to be standing at about €30m. It's being reported that Barcelona first need to conduct a few sales before spending money on new players.
Depay is meant to be a replacement for Luis Suarez who is expected to leave Blaugrana this transfer window.
Last term, Memphis managed 15 goals and two assists in 22 matches for the Ligue 1 outfit.
