Messi and his potential future club could find themselves in court if he leaves this summer

The Catalan club would take the issue to the court, demanding Leo's €700m release clause to be paid in full.

Barcelona are not planning to make things easy for Leo Messi to leave, according to Cadena SER.

The Catalans will sue their captain and any club he would join this summer.

Both of them would be held accountable for breaching the active contract between Leo and Barca.

They would have to pay the exact €700m set as the release clause in Messi's current deal.

There are conflicting reports regarding Leo's contract, though.

His €700m release clause expired at the end of the 2019/20 season according to Onda Cero's Alfredo Martinez.

The contract stipulates that the Argentinian is able to leave for free this summer but the Catalan club strongly disagrees with this reading, supported by La Liga.
