Spain U21 coach De la Fuente heap praise on Riqui Puig: He has a special charm, he is different

Spain U21 coach De la Fuente says that Puig catches the eye through his behaviour on the pitch.

The youngster was never called up before as there were better options, the boss says.

“Riqui Puig has a special charm, he is different, he has a special touch," Mundo Deportivo quote Spain U21 coach Luis de la Fuente saying.

"He stands out for many things and has that ability to attract attention through his behaviour on the pitch."

The boss went on to explain why the 21-year-old has never been called up to represent the national team before.

"It is as simple as having the possibility of selecting very important players, and at that time, there were others who we thought could give more than Riqui.

The time has come for Riqui, and he is taking advantage of it. I'm happy because he has a good attitude."

Puig made his debut for Spain U21 in the 1-0 win over North Macedonia. It's expected that the youngster will be part of Ronald Koeman's Barcelona for the 2020/21 season.
