Zinedine Zidane surprise by Mariano's decision to stay at Madrid

Mariano Diaz is not looking to leave Real Madrid ahead of the 2020/21 campaign with the striker having three years left on his contract.

According to AS, the Dominican is ready to stay at the club even though he is quite unlikely to play first-team football at the Bernabeu next season.

The decision is said to have left Zinedine Zidane baffled, with the Frenchman wondering why the 27-year-old won't leave if he isn't going to play.

The Academy graduate was heavily linked with a loan move to Benfica but the transfer fell through after Mariano failed to agree personal terms with the Portuguese side.
