Barcelona boss Koeman reveals reason behind Griezmann's absence vs Ferencvaros and his place in upcoming El Clasico

Koeman benched Griezmann for the first time this season against the Hungarian champions.

The boss says that the forward's omission vs Ferencvaros 'means nothing' ahead of El Clasico and he could feature on the weekend.

"Griezmann hasn't played, but it means nothing in the face of El Clasico,” Ronald Koeman explained, as quoted by Goal.

"We look for the best 11 for each game, today we have opted for Trincao playing wide, and then Ousmane in order to have depth on the wing."

Antoine Griezmann had started each of Barcelona's opening four games of the season before Tuesday's Champions League group stage opener against Ferencvaros.

The Catalans host Real Madrid in the La Liga on Saturday and Koeman has refused to rule out the Frenchman starting in El Clasico.

"Let's see Saturday, it will be another game. It's my job to prepare the team and have the best squad for each moment," the Dutchman added.

As a reminder, Griezmann has failed to contribute to a single goal for Barca in a total of 264 minutes of playing time this term so far.
