Flop Kepa set to remain at Chelsea after club fail to find loan options

The Spaniard's form might not be scaring off potential suitors, but his wages certainly do.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to stay at Chelsea even after Edouard Mendy's arrival, according to The Sun.

It's not because the club wants him to stay - the problem is that there is no club willing to buy or even to loan him.

Chelsea are refusing to take a substantial hit on the £71m fee they paid to Atheltic Bilbao in 2018 which means no club can afford his transfer.

As for a loan, any deal is only likely to happen if the Blues agree to pay at least half of his £150,000-a-week wages.

It means that Kepa is likely to stay even if he's not expected to remain the No.1 after his latest errors and Mendy's transfer.

As a consequence, the Spaniard might be earning £5m per year just to be a back-up shot-stopper.
