Former Manchester United striker Berbatov reveals 'Modric is on the level of Barcelona legends Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez'

Berbatov has high praises for former teammate Luka Modric

The Croatian is among the 3-4 best midfielders of the last decade alongside Xavi and Iniesta, he claims.

"I have no doubt that he [Luka Modric] is one of the three-four best midfielders of the last decade. Modric is at the height of Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez, without a doubt," Dimitar Berbatov has told Betfair.

"It is no coincidence that in this decade he has been the only player capable of breaking Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo's dominance in the Ballon d'Or.

"He will be 35 years old, but when you have the ability to read the games as he reads them, to regulate your strength and energy, you can play until you feel like it. If he continues as he is now, he may have several more years of career at the highest level. And that would be wonderful."

Although neither Xavi nor Andres Iniesta won the Ballon d'Or, it's worth a mention that Modric has had much fewer club appearances on elite level (506) than Xavi (767) and Iniesta (674). Besides, Modric has spent just 8 years in Spain so far while Xavi and Iniesta were part of Barcelona for 17 and 16 years respectively.
