Newcastle V Man Utd: Ighalo Gives Strong Comment On Cavani

Newcastle V Man Utd Ighalo Comment Cavani

Odion Ighalo has welcomed the arrival of Edinson Cavani at Manchester United and is not shy of competition for places under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The former Watford forward’s playing time has been significantly reduced following United’s poor start to the new campaign.

Cavani’s arrival on a free transfer would seemingly push Ighalo further down the pecking order but the former Super Eagles striker believes all new signings will only be a positive for the squad.

“It’s good for the team, for everybody to be on their toes to work hard,” Ighalo told the club’s official website.

“For a big team, like Manchester United, you have to have competition for players to do well and I welcome the new guys coming in.

“They will bring more challenges to everyone in the team, to work hard for their positions to play in the team.”

Ighalo could make his first league start of the season this weekend against Newcastle with Anthony Martial suspended and Cavani ineligible to feature due to self-isolation COVID-19 guidelines after arriving in the UK.

The Nigeria international says he is ready to step into the team if required.

Ighalo added: “I’m always ready. Whenever the gaffer calls me, my idea is just to give my best in training, work hard and wait for my opportunity – to take it.

“Hopefully, I’ll just keep my head down, keep working hard every day. Come to the training ground every day and give it my best. Whenever the gaffer needs me, I will come and give my best.”
