Referees have agreed to review the decision to not send off Jordan Pickford during last weekend’s Merseyside derby when they next meet for their annual summit.
The Toffees glovesman has been widely criticised for his reckless tackle and Pickford has been targeted on social media since it was confirmed Virgil Van Dijk could miss the entire season due to the clash.
He suffered damage to his ACL and faces many months on the sidelines, with a possible return not happening before the end of the ongoing campaign.
The VAR official for the derby, David Coote, has also come in for severe criticism and he’s been dropped from refereeing and VAR duties for the upcoming round of Premier League fixtures.
And it has now been reported by the Daily Mail that when referees meet at their next half-term summit, the England No.1’s challenge on Van Dijk will be one of the incidents reviewed.
The officials get together to discuss and investigate decisions which have been made throughout the season, particularly those which caused confusion.
ickford on Thursday was defended by his manager, Carlo Ancelotti, who dismissed claims that the goalkeeper’s tackle on Van Dijk was premeditated.
