Font: 'I would be very excited to have Haaland at Barca'

 

Font says that Barca has failed to bring a proper replacement for Luis Suarez.

Although Koeman is asking for Depay, he would rather sign an out-and-out striker like Haaland.

However, the presidential candidate says that the club might not be able to sign too many big names in the near future.

"It's evident that when we sold Luis Suarez, we didn't bring a replacement. The coach is asking for Memphis Depay but I think that the striker position is one that would be very good to cover, and there are many spectacular 'number nines'. One of them is Erling Haaland, a footballer whom I would be very excited to have," presidential candidate Victor Font has said during an online meeting with the fans.

"Although I think it's good that we manage the expectations of the Barcelona club members realistically. The pandemic has put us in a critical situation and we will not be able to make all the big signings we want, at least in the short term. But we can always build on the talent we already have at La Masia."

Haaland has recorded 11 goals and three assists in 11 matches for Borussia Dortmund this season. Transfermarkt rates the 20-year-old at €80m and the striker's deal with BVB runs until 2024.

Interestingly, this might be the first time that Font names a player he would like to sign if he becomes president.
