Four Free Agents Listed For Liverpool To Sign As Cover At Centre-Half

Free Agents For Liverpool Cover At Centre-Half

Liverpool’s defensive injury crisis deepened this week with the news that Joe Gomez faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines and Jurgen Klopp could be forced to look into the market for free agents.

The 23-year-old was left in agony during England training earlier this week ahead of their clash against Ireland, and the Liverpool medical team are now awaiting the full diagnosis.

Here is a look at free agents that could help, but Klopp might be sceptical.

The biggest name on the list is former Real Madrid and Argentina defender Ezequiel Garay.

The 34-year-old remains unattached after leaving Valencia in the summer after four years.

With almost 400 career appearances to his name, Garay would bring experience in abundance to Anfield, but his advanced age could push the Reds to consider alternative targets.

Bruno Uvini

Former Brazil international Bruno Uvini, who spent time on loan at Tottenham way back in 2012, is also a free agent after leaving Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad earlier in the year.

The 29-year-old left Sao Paulo in a high profile move to join Napoli eight years ago, but only made one league appearance for the club before leaving permanently in 2016.

A string of short term deals have followed, with a move to Liverpool seemingly rather unlikely.

Jozo Simunovic

Jozo Simunovic left Celtic earlier this year at the expiration of his contract.

The 26-year-old won five league titles and six domestic cups during five full seasons at the club, but had fallen out of favour under Neil Lennon having also spent time on the sidelines.

The former Croatia youth international would no doubt be a risky move for Klopp, but with Van Dijk and Gomez on the sidelines the former Borussia Dortmund boss might not have much choice.

Andre Pinto

Andre Pinto is another potential option for Liverpool having left Al-Fateh earlier this year.

Prior to that spell the 31-year-old had been a regular for Braga, which earned a move to Sporting.

The central defender also featured once for Portugal back in 2015 and could offer short-term cover.
