The German has started in all but one Chelsea games this season so far.
Timo seems to be enjoying regular game time, and the boss does not want to disrupt the rhythm.
"It was clear with the Burnley game that I was planning on giving him a rest, more because I had options and because of the journey to Russia and back," Frank Lampard said about Timo Werner, as quoted by the official Chelsea website.
"Timo has had a lot of games but at the minute there is always a balance in my job with players who are playing well and enjoying it and finding their way in the team and making relationships, and feeling the league if they are new to it. That has been a big deal for Timo as well so I have to be happy with that
"I am not talking about tomorrow necessarily, I am not going to give the team away, but as we look forward I will try to manage those minutes to keep him as fresh as I can but at the moment he is going well so we will see."
Because of Christian Pulisic's untimely warm-up injury ahead of the Burnely game, Werner had to be included in the starting XI instead. He ended up playing 90 minutes there, as well as in the Champions League game against Rennes 4 days later.
All in all, Timo was only rested for one game since the start of this season - and that was a League Cup hammering of Barnsley. As for the remaining matches, the German played 90 minutes in all but two of them - which proves Lampard right about his fitness level at the moment.
