Jose Mourinho: ‘I consider Iker Casillas an important part of my career’

The former Madrid gaffer was responsible for benching Iker during his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Jose Mourinho still holds Iker Casillas in high regard despite their strained relationship during his spell at Real Madrid.

When asked about he feels about Casillas, Mourinho told Movistar+: “I consider him an important person in my career.”

Iker’s relationship with Mourinho deteriorated in 2011 after the Madrid captain had reportedly tried calling a truce with Barcelona star Xavi following a feisty El Clasico.

The Portuguese manager often played Diego Lopez in place of Casillas on many occasions, infuriating many Madridistas and surprising a lot of fans.
