Arsenal Set To Replace Transfer Chief Edu With Man Utd Legend

Arsenal’s technical director Edu has been the Gunners’ technical director since 2019 but his position has come under scrutiny with the club underperforming this season.

Some of Edu’s signings and his links with super agent Kia Joorabchian have been questioned and the report claims that he could make way for Manchester United legend and current Ajax CEO Edwin Van der Sar.

Former goalkeeper and director of football Marc Overmars has also been linked with a move to Arsenal but recent reports claim he could join Barcelona after their presidential elections are over.

Van der Sar recently offered an insight into the philosophy he has helped foster at Ajax in an interview with BT Sport ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Liverpool earlier this month.

He said:”I think it’s probably the DNA of the club.

“We are delivering players to the first team and they are coming from the youth academy.

“They give us success for two or three years and then it’s the next step. Myself, Marc Overmars did it also.

“Our league is not strong enough so that way you take the next step.

“It gives us the opportunity to give the new breed a chance on the field.”

He then added: “It’s not a big secret – it’s just giving young players a chance.

“That’s something that’s more difficult in the Premier League because the stakes are so high.

“You’ve got six, seven teams looking to win the title. For us it’s a little easier.

“But you need the confidence, mentality.”
