Defensive Crisis Worsens For Liverpool In Van Dijk Latest Injury Update

Van Dijk Latest Injury Update

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk has provided fans with an update on social media on his recovery from a ruptured cruciate ligament.

The Dutchman posted a video of him cycling on his Twitter account as he enters week 10 of his recovery.

The next stage of his recovery will see the 29-year-old start utilising the swimming pool at Liverpool’s training complex.

However, there will be at least four more months before Van Dijk will likely be allowed to get back to playing football.

His injury update comes amid a fresh defensive crisis at Liverpool after Joel Matip was ruled out for a considerable amount of time.

With Joe Gomez also injured, there are no senior centre-backs at Anfield with Fabinho and Jordan Henderson likely deputies for the foreseeable future.

Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips are Liverpool’s back-up options but have little experience in the Premier League.

And with the likes of Manchester United, Leicester and Everton hounding them down in the table, Klopp cannot afford any slip-ups if he wants to retain the title.

Splashing the cash on a replacement in January does not appear to be at the forefront of their mindset.
