The Gunners' technical director says the under-performing Brazilian needs more time to adapt to Arsenal.
Edu also stated that Willian is one of the best players around and he will start delivering for the Gunners later.
"Listen, everybody knows Willian," Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar told the Mirror. "If people say that he’s not a good footballer then maybe they don’t know football because he has always performed at the top, top level. Then he moved.
"For me, Willian is a question of time to be performing how we know he can.
"What do you expect? Do you expect it straight away? Boom! Willian can be the best one? But he needs a little bit of time, it’s strange as well to say that but you need time to know the players who you are going to play with.
"Players need time to understand how to train, how to work with the people, to understand a lot of things and I told him that I know that and I hope that people from outside understand that as well.
"That’s happening with Willian. Training, he’s training properly. His behaviour? Top, as always. Training? Fantastic. For me, it’s just a question of timing."
Even if the Brazilian is indeed the first to go to training and the last one to leave, it does not seem to affect his performances. So far, he has been good in one game—his debut against Fulham, which saw him provide 2 assists. Apart from that, he's been bang average for the Gunners.
He has spent 799 minutes on the pitch across 11 Premier League games and has managed only one shot on target. Not even one goal.
So while all Arsenal fans want Willian to rediscover his best form which he demonstrated in the summer with Chelsea, it's fair to say he has been one of the worst players for the Gunners this season.
