Ex-Argentina coach and 2014 World Cup finalist Alejandro Sabella dies aged 66

What a sad year for Argentina and for the football world as a whole.

Former Argentina manager Alejandro Sabella has passed away but he left a huge legacy for Argentinian football by reaching the World Cup final in which his side was incredibly close to glory.

Leo Messi scored 4 goals in the 2014 campaign – here's how Sabella described his impact on the national team back then.

Under Sabella, Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi reached the 2014 World Cup final. That year, Sabella stepped down as the Argentina coach.

Sabella was in the hospital for over a week suffering from a 'viral infection', as per various reports. His condition worsened on Tuesday.

Rest in peace, Alejandro.
