Liverpool to face another defensive dilemma as they await Joel Matip fitness update

The No.32 was taken off at half-time during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Fulham after suffering from a back spasm.

But, speaking post-match at Craven Cottage, the manager provided a positive update on the centre-back’s condition.

“Joel Matip has a spasm in his back. We will see. At the moment, nothing else,” said Klopp at his press conference.

“He got already treatment, will get treatment and we will see. I think there’s a chance for Wednesday. [It’s not that bad] in the moment, no.

Joel Matip began his professional career with Schalke 04 in 2009 and was part of their teams that won the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup in 2011. He totalled 258 competitive appearances and 23 goals before moving to Liverpool on a free transfer in 2016.
