Lucien Favre Sacked As Borussia Dortmund Manager

Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre has been sacked following yesterday’s disastrous 5-1 defeat at home to Stuttgart, reports claim.

BVB are currently fifth and their bid to end eight years without a Bundesliga title suffered a damaging blow on Saturday.

Favre’s side were hit for five in front of their own fans, leaving them five points behind league leaders Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig.

It’s hardly a disaster, with so much of the season remaining, and Dortmund did manage to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League as group winners.

However, according to Bild, the reliable German sports outlet, Dortmund have run out of patience after 11 games of the new campaign, taking the decision to sack Favre.

All eyes will turn to who the German giants bring in next – and former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will undoubtedly be linked with the role.

The Argentine has been out of a job since November 2019, for more than a year now, and this could be the big club role he has been waiting for.

With the likes of Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland, Dortmund have one of the most promising young squads in Europe, and represent an exciting prospect for any manager.
