A look at Arsenal's most expensive sales ever

Arsenal has been known over the years to have always let go of their star players either because of the player's title ambition or the club decided to let them go because of other transfer market giants priced them off their hands with mouth-watering offers.

e360hubs takes a look at 5 former Arsenal stars whose moves away from north London brought a lot of money to the club's treasury.

1) Marc Overmars—€40m—Barcelona—2000

One of the greatest players in Arsenal's history, the Dutch forward left Highbury at the age of 27 and started a trend of former Gunners failing to make a grade at Barcelona.

2) Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain—€34m—Liverpool—2017

Ox was disappointed with playing out of position at the Emirates so left the club when the opportunity came. Was a first-team player at LFC in his first and third seasons but his knee has restrained his progress and kept him away from becoming a key figure at Anfield.

3) Nicolas Anelka—€34m—Real Madrid—1999

The Frenchman was a promising striker when he joined Arsenal back in 1997 but he decided to part ways with the Gunners and go to Real Madrid, a decision he has come to regret since.

4) Alexis Sanchez—€34m—Man United—2018

The Chile international left the Gunners for United and, as he recently admitted, wanted to go back to north London after his first training session. Alexis became one of United's biggest flops, scoring 5 goals in 45 games in the space of two seasons with the Red Devils.

5) Cesc Fabregas—€34m—Barcelona—2011

During his time at Arsenal, Cesc was always open about his desire to try himself at his home side Barcelona, and, after a long and drawn-out transfer saga, the Catalans got their man in 2011.

A move to Barcelona hardly brought any happiness to Fabregas as, despite regular starts, he was often played out of position, and the Catalans failed to lift the Champions League trophy during his time there.
