A Worrying Trend Has Been Identified At Manchester United

Worrying Trend At Manchester United

Manchester United took a credible point away from home at Anfield on Sunday, but it continued an unwanted trend for the Red Devils.

The goalless draw at Anfield means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have only scored one goal in six matches in all competitions this season against the big six.

The only goal United have scored in those games was a penalty from Bruno Fernandes in the 6-1 drubbing by Tottenham.

There is no doubting the Portuguese’s goal return of 27 in 49 appearances for the club, even if 15 of them are penalties.

However, not even him has been able to make the difference against big domestic opposition.

United have their best chance in years to compete for the Premier League title.

It is often said the big games take care of themselves and that teams should focus on picking up victories against the lesser opposition.

But United’s record against the top so-called six is something that must be improved upon.

Taking points off your direct rivals is vital, and scoring against them can cause some psychological blows in the opposition’s defence.

United are doing the first part, by drawing with Manchester City, Chelsea and most recently Liverpool.

But at the moment they cannot score in those matches, even with the influence of Fernandes, and that has to change.
