Analyzing Four Bosses Abramovich Could Consider As Chelsea’s Next Manager

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is on the brink of being sacked after another defeat in the Premier League.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have won just once in seven matches, including defeats to Manchester City and Arsenal.

It has seen the Blues drop to eighth in the table, not what Roman Abramovich envisaged after spending over £250m in the summer.

But with Abramovich’s finger hovering above the panic button, who could possibly come in to take the job at Stamford Bridge? Express Sport has revealed four best candidates.

Thomas Tuchel

The German was recently sacked from Paris St-Germain and would be available to jump straight into the hotseat at Chelsea.

Tuchel has a stern hand with his squad and is a known workaholic with his own philosophy on how he wants his teams to play.

He would be the instant favourite to replace Lampard, should he be sacked, but the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss is not afraid to rile up the boardroom.

Abramovich has had his problems with managers before in this respect – Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte had bitter ends at Chelsea – but there is no doubting Tuchel’s managerial prowess.

Massimiliano Allegri

If Abramovich wants experience and trophies, there would be no better option than the readily-available Massimiliano Allegri.

His Juventus team won almost everything in sight in the Serie A during his four years in charge and it can be argued they have been declining since his departure.

Allegri has been learning English in recent years and is keen on a job in the Premier League.

However, what it would mean for Chelsea’s blossoming academy graduates remains to be seen – with the Italian known to preferred tried and tested stars.

Julian Nagelsmann

What better way to get Werner firing again than to hire the man who knows how to get the best out of him?

It is amazing to think that Julian Nagelsmann is still just 33, which would make him the youngest manager in the Premier League if he replaced Lampard.

His RB Leipzig team has a clear style that is easy on the eye and saw them get to the Champions League semi-finals last year while this season saw his side qualify from a group including PSG and Manchester United.

However, his lack of experience is one of the reasons why Lampard is under the cosh at the moment while Nagelsmann’s system would require an overhaul of the squad to suit the tactics.

Brendan Rodgers

There is a lot to admire about Brendan Rodgers from a Chelsea point of view – he knows the club well after working there as a coach, has Premier League experience, plays expansive football and develops youngsters brilliantly.

If Lampard is sacked, Rodgers would be able to continue the work the Englishman started and with a degree more experience – having coached the likes of Liverpool, Swansea and now Leicester.

His Foxes are third in the table and were close to Champions League qualification last season before a late collapse.

But that is the problem – if Abramovich wants trophies by the bucket load, is Rodgers the man to deliver them – when his teams, bar Celtic, have so often choked at the crucial moment?
