Chelsea Finally Confirm Sacking Of Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard has been sacked and he’s no longer Chelsea manager.

Sunday’s FA victory was not enough to keep Lampard in his job, with owner Roman Abramovich dismissing him on Monday.

The Russian is known for being very private and it is very rare for him to give interviews or speak publicly, but he’s quoted by Chelsea’s official site as expressing his sadness at parting ways with Lampard.

Former Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is expected to be appointed in Lampard’s place, having left PSG in December.

The season had started encouragingly for Chelsea, with a title challenge on the cards, but they are now 11 points off the top of the table and even a European place looks uncertain on recent form.

Lampard was appointed at Stamford Bridge in July 2019 after just one season in management at Derby County, where he reached the Championship play-offs but missed out on promotion to the Premier League.

 In his first season as Blues boss he guided the team to a fourth-placed finish in the Premier League and made it to the FA Cup final where they lost to Arsenal.

Lampard had 18 months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, having signed a deal until the summer of 2022 when he took the job.
