Four Players And Their Club President Killed

Four Palmas players and their club president have been killed after their plane crashed on take-off.

The small aircraft was taking the group to a Brazilian cup game on Sunday – and it has been reported, tragically, that there were no survivors.

The club announced that president Lucas Meira, as well as players Lucas Praxedes, Guilherme Noe, Ranule and Marcus Molinari, all died.

The pilot, named as Wagner, was also killed in the incident.

A statement from Palmas said: ‘The plane took off and crashed at the end of the runway at the Tocantinense Aviation Association.

‘We regret to report there are no survivors.’

The travellers were due to jet out to Goiania, around 500 miles away, with Palmas set to play Vila Nova on Monday in the Copa Verde.

The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the cup tie has been postponed.

Globo Esporte have claimed the plane came down just moments after take-off and crashed into the ground at the end of the runway.
