Laporta reveals Xavi not part of his project because he believes in Koeman

Laporta says he has a good relationship with Xavi and Jordi Cruyff despite them being part of Font's project.

Unlike Font, the former president still hasn't revealed his sporting project.

"Xavi and Jordi Cruyff have been approached by another candidate, but they have denied it. I do not blame them for anything, I know them and I'm good friends with them," presidential candidate Joan Laporta has told TVE. (h/t Diario AS)

"I prefer to think about what they say, and they are predisposed to work at Barcelona, they are Barca assets. I do not have them in my candidacy because my project when elected is to motivate Ronald Koeman to succeed."

As a reminder, Victor Font has announced that Xavi and Jordi Cruyff would be hired as general manager and sporting director respectively if he wins the presidential election at Barcelona. Laporta, meanwhile, is yet to reveal his sporting project.

The election was supposed to take place on January 24 but has been postponed because of the pandemic. The voting is now expected to take place in early March.
