Ronald Araujo reveals he had offer from Real Madrid before joining Barcelona

Araujo joined the Catalans in August 2018.

Madrid also wanted to sign him but Ronald's agent didn't even tell him about the Whites' interest.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old is happy with his decision to sign for Barca.

"I remember. I was in Uruguay, I was taking a nap, I remember it was a Thursday and suddenly I had a call from my representative. I knew he was in Europe but he didn't know where he was," Ronald Araujo said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.

"And I remember perfectly that I was taking a nap, I wake up and he says 'get ready, you are coming here on Sunday'. I said 'to here where'. And he said 'I'd rather not tell you'.

"And I said 'no, tell me'. And he told me that there was a possibility of being able to get to Barca, that there were also other offers, and I was very happy, very excited.

"I got up, called my parents, which was the first thing I always did, and I was very happy, but we had to hope that more things will be given to be able to take Barca."

Araujo joined Barcelona in a €4.7m move from Boston River in August 2018.

Real Madrid were also keen on the Uruguayan back than but his agent didn't even tell Ronald about the Whites' interest - something Araujo doesn't regret.

"There were several offers and at the time he [his agent] did not tell me that one was from Madrid," the 21-year-old added.

"Later on, I found out that there was an offer from Madrid, as well as from other teams, but I was happy to have arrived at Barca and to continue here."

The centre-back has made 23 appearances for the Blaugrana so far since his senior debut in October 2019.
