Solskjaer’s Three Errors Highlighted In Defeat To Sheffield

Manchester United missed the chance to return to the top of the Premier League as they suffered the shock of the season against Sheffield United at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side needed a win to replace City at the summit following their rivals’ thrashing of West Brom the previous night.

Here are three things Solskjaer got wrong:

Solskjaer made too much rotation – six changes to be précised – from the side that knocked Liverpool out of the FA Cup at the weekend. Key players such as Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelof were swapped out of the side – and the changes didn’t work out.

After Bryan headed the Blades into the lead, not enough changed for United as the Red Devils were too slow to respond. While they got back on level terms through Maguire’s equaliser, they were then caught out again as Oliver Burke scored with United’s defence a shambles.

One of the Solskjaer’s changes saw Edinson Cavani benched in favour of Anthony Martial, who was ineffective other than one effort that was ruled out for a foul. It was too little, too late, however, with Sheffield United inflicting a humiliating blow to United’s title chances.
