Awoniyi S’Eagles Call-Up For Next Month’s AFCONQ Stopped
Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi may just not get a Super Eagles call-up for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho no thanks to a thigh injury.
Head coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has hinted on calling up the 23-year-old after a haul of goals in the Bundesliga.
However, Awoniyi Bundesliga club Union Berlin announced the Nigeria striker has suffered a thigh muscle injury and he will be out of action for “the foreseeable future”.
The Union Berlin striker was not listed for the team’s last Bundesliga game against Freiburg on account of the injury.
Awoniyi has already represented Nigeria at U17, U20 and U23 levels.
