Rashford Reacts As He Overtakes Eric Cantona Scoring Record

Rashford Overtakes Cantona Scoring Record

Marcus Rashford scored his 83rd goal in the 9-0 drubbing of Southampton on Tuesday thereby passing Eric Cantona in Manchester United’s all-time scoring records.

The England international is now 14th on the list of United’s top scorers – with David Beckham’s total of 85 next in sight.

And Rashford himself took to Twitter after the game to express his delight.

“83 special moment for me as a boyhood United fan, passing King Eric’s record,” the forward tweeted. “Loved it out there tonight, great team performance.”

The 23-year-old is still a long way behind Wayne Rooney’s club-record tally of 253 goals – but vowed to plunder plenty more after passing Cantona in the history books.

“He’s obviously a top player that did a lot for this club,” Rashford told BT Sport.

“I’m pleased to go past him today and for me I just want to go out and score more goals and keep helping the team.”

Tuesday’s win moved Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay, Bruno Fernandes and Dan James all joined Rashford on the scoresheet as the Red Devils ran riot against a Southampton side who had two Saints sent off.
