Bayern the only team that can stop Man City winning UCL, says Hargreaves

Owen Hargreaves believes Bayern Munich are the only team that can stop Manchester City winning the Champions League and a famous quadruple.

Pep Guardiola's side are still fighting on four fronts after progressing to the quarter-finals of the European competition with a 4-0 aggregate victory over Borussia Monchengladbach.

City also have the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and another Premier League title in their sights this season.

While Guardiola has played down City's chances of winning all four trophies, Hargreaves thinks they have a strong chance of doing so and claimed the only team who can stop them in Europe is last year's winners of the Champions League.

'This is the City team that has best chance of winning Champions League,' Hargreaves told BT Sport.

'Defence sorted; I don't think this team has a weakness anymore. This is City's best chance, they have lost previous shootouts [Monaco, Liverpool, Spurs], now they are playing at their tempo, don't concede and score a tonne of goals.

'They have four No 10s on the pitch tonight. I don't see them going to shootouts anymore.

‘I think you have to say it is [conceivable City can win the quadruple] just from the form they have.

‘They don’t really concede. Won 21 of the last 22.  We all know the margins are so fine at that highest level and if you don’t get the details right, you can go out.

‘I think Pep realises now that playing this way maybe he can control some of those little details.

‘The only team I see that can stop them, is Bayern Munich. That’s probably the only one I see. But if they have a bad day then as we saw with United, they can be beaten.'

Bayern all-but booked their progression to the quarter-finals with a 4-1 away victory over Lazio in the first leg, with the second taking place on Wednesday.

The Germans won a historic sextuple last season after claiming all six top-level titles available to them.

City have a chance to replicate that achievement as winning the Champions League would give them the chance to claim the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

First, they must beat Everton in the quarter-final of the FA Cup on Saturday. They then face Tottenham in the final of the Carabao Cup in April with Guardiola's men looking to win the competition for a fourth year in a row.

In the Premier League, City are 14 points clear of second place Manchester United and are on course to win their third league title under their manager.
