Arsenal 'make Trippier bid after Man Utd fail to meet Atletico's valuation'

Arsenal have reportedly made a bid for Atletico Madrid right back Kieran Trippier.

The 31-year-old, who was part of Diego Simeone's LaLiga-winning side last season and previously played for the Gunners' arch-rivals Tottenham, had been the subject of intense negotiations between Manchester United and Atleti.

However, The Sun have said that United having only offered £20million for the England international, a long way short of the Spanish side's valuation of £34m.

The Gunners' interest in Trippier is down to Hector Bellerin's impending departure, with clubs in Spain as well as Inter Milan and Bayer Leverkusen interested in his signature.

Simeone is said to want Trippier to stay after the former Tottenham full back started 35 games in all competitions last season.

Meanwhile, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel have suffered injury setbacks heading into the new campaign.

Nketiah suffered bruising to his right ankle in last weekend's friendly loss to Arsenal and will return to training in around a month, while Gabriel picked up a knee injury with Brazil's Olympic squad and is currently being assessed.

Mikel Arteta's men face north London rivals Tottenham in their final pre-season on Sunday to raise money for, and awareness of, mental health causes, with their opening Premier League taking place the following Friday against new boys Brentford.

Atletico's last pre-season match comes against Feyenoord on Sunday before they begin their title defence with a visit to Celta Vigo seven days later.
