Chelsea fans debate potential new deal for Rudiger

Antonio Rudiger has been a rock since Thomas Tuchel's arrival, a massive turnaround considering that he was tipped to leave before the German came.

Now, with his contract nearing an end and a free transfer a possibility next year, the centre-back is in negotiations with the club over a new deal.

Chelsea fan Blue_Footy on Twitter made the argument for a new contract saying, "I don't know what Rudiger is asking for but he has grown into one of the world's finest.

"Now we have to pay the price for his growth and at 28 years, we can afford to give him a new 4-year deal. I think he deserves to earn double of his current wage."

The replies didn't all agree, with user Baku Brian arguing: "Do you want to be paying him 180k week when we sack Tuchel in 18 months and we go to a 2 back and Rudiger is decidedly average again?

"There’s two valid sides to this."

Another fan, MarvtheGreatest, stepped in, saying: "Except he was never average, he was good for Conte and even with Sarri we did not concede a lot.

"I would definitely give him the deal I’ve rated Rudiger from day 1, even with Frank we leaked goals when he didn’t play, AC still isn’t as good imo but in this style he’s awesome."

Rudiger's importance to the side is not at debate here, but there do seems to be valid arguments regarding it.

Do you think Rudiger should be given a big new contract or a more team-friendly deal?
