Crystal Palace stun Man City 0-2 in Etihad

Crystal Palace scored one of the biggest shocks of the season, beating reigning champions Manchester City 2-0 to boost their credentials for a top-half finish under rookie manager Patrick Vieira.

Despite Manchester City being heavy favourites, it was Crystal Palace who struck first only six minutes into the match, when the visitors were able to steal the ball off of a City defender.

Conor Gallagher and Wilfried Zaha combined with the Ivorian sneaking in behind the City defence to coolly slot the ball home and give the visitors an unlikely early lead at the Etihad Stadium.

Moments before the HT whistle, it would get much worse for Pep Guardiola’s men, when Aymeric Laporte took down Wilfried Zaha as the Palace attacker attempted to break away in behind, forcing the referee to send the City defender off.

Despite being down a man, it would be City who came out in the second half with the bit between their teeth. On the hour mark, Gabriel Jesus appeared to level proceedings however there was an offside in the buildup to the goal, quelling the City celebrations. Palace would put City out of their misery in the 88th minute with some super combination play at the end of a counter-attack. Conor Gallagher side-footed the ball off the post and into the back of the net, to secure a famous victory for Patrick Viera’s men.

The Eagles’ victory is only their second in the 13 Premier League meetings between the two clubs, and sees the London club create new club history, after scoring 2 or more goals in seven straight away games for the first time. To make matters worse for Manchester City, the defeat snaps a promising eight-game unbeaten streak.
