EPL: Solskjaer fights to keep his job as Manchester United players turn against him, with Conte on standby.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the manager of Manchester United, is fighting for his job, since a number of his players have already lost faith in him.

The players had turned on Solskjaer even before the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool on Sunday, according to ESPN.

United's hierarchy is also aware that Antonio Conte, the former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager, is on standby and ready to take over at Old Trafford.

Following Jose Mourinho's dismissal in December 2018, Solskjaer was named temporary manager.

The 49-year-old, on the other hand, has already lost five of his previous nine games.

It has whittled down his backing in the dressing room to a core of United's British players and a few foreigners.

The setback to Liverpool further added to the club's sense of despondency regarding Solskjaer's future as manager.

Some players have openly criticised the Norwegian manager to teammates while on international duty, citing his inability to solve the team's defensive problems, his alleged "favouritism" of under-performing players, and his reluctance to give opportunities to Jesse Lingard, Donny van de Beek, and Nemanja Matic.

They also point to a lack of communication between Cristiano Ronaldo and Mason Greenwood, who rarely pass to one another in attacking areas.

Despite the fact that, unlike Mourinho and his predecessor, Louis van Gaal, Solskjaer is not disliked inside the squad, there is a sense that the former Molde manager lacks the experience, mindset, and credentials of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, and Thomas Tuchel.
