Klopp calls on Liverpool fans to roar his side to victory against Man City

Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool supporters to roar them on to victory against Manchester City on Sunday.

City broke their 18-year hoodoo at Anfield with a 4-1 win last February inside an empty stadium.

But Klopp believes Liverpool can feed off a white-hot atmosphere to strike an early blow in the Premier League title race.

The Liverpool boss implored the fans — and ‘even the guys selling hot dogs’ — to get behind his team as they bid to go four points clear of Pep Guardiola’s side.

‘There is a massive difference at Anfield with or without fans, so let’s set a new level with them,’ said Klopp .

‘The fans have been exceptional since they’ve been back — I have loved each second. Everybody in the stadium knows it only really makes sense when we do it all together.

‘Let’s give it a proper try, all together, and be as powerful a unit as we can.’

Guardiola insists City will embrace the stadium at full capacity as they aim to back up last Saturday’s statement win at Stamford Bridge.

Before last season, Guardiola had picked up just one point from his four league trips to Liverpool. ‘I’m sure the players would prefer to play with fans at Anfield than without,’ he said. ‘

‘We can enjoy a fantastic atmosphere there. Hopefully we can handle it in a good way.’

When initially asked about the lack of fans potentially playing a part in last season’s win, Guardiola laughed. ‘You have destroyed my happiness because you don’t credit what we did last season. I will never forgive you!’

City were dominant at Chelsea last Saturday, when Thomas Tuchel’s team failed to register a shot on target, before being beaten by Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday despite controlling the game. Guardiola revealed he had never been happier with his squad given the circumstances surrounding their start to the campaign.

‘We’ve reached a high level in the last few weeks,’ he said. ‘Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden have trained for just two weeks, important players are injured and we came back late. How we’ve overcome situations is so good.

‘It makes me happier than ever because I know how difficult it is.’
