Newcastle set to spend £140m less than allowed by FFP rules in January

Newcastle's new owners are not in a rush to splash the cash, according to the latest report from The Telegraph.

As per the source, the Magpies' budget for the January transfer window will be around £50m.

That is despite the fact that they would be able to spend up to £190m without violating the Financial Fair Play rules.

If that's the case, Newcastle are playing a long game and prepared to build a sustainable club structure before an inevitable cash injection.

That means that the reports of players like Philippe Coutinho or Aaron Ramsey being the club targets for January might not be quite true.

The future of Steve Bruce remains in doubt even though he took charge of the team in his 1,000th game as a manager today.
