Norwich 1 - 2 Leeds: Raphinha and Rodrigo pile pressure on Farke
It only took five second-half minutes for Leeds United and Norwich City to decide this one as a quick flurry of goals saw winless Norwich stay rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after Leeds ran out 2-1 winners - their third H2H away-win from their last seven encounters.
This fixture was a bottom-of-the-table clash with both sides starting in the relegation zone ahead of kick-off, with only a single Premier League win between them. Leeds had the first chance to take the lead eight minutes in when Stuart Dallas’ brilliant through ball sent Daniel James in on goal, allowing the Welsh winger to round Tim Krul, only to see his shot brilliantly blocked on the line by Grant Hanley.
The remainder of the first half turned into a very scrappy affair with neither side creating many chances. Raphinha was by far the best player on the pitch during the opening 45 minutes, looking dangerous every time he got the ball, although he couldn’t find a way past a resolute Norwich defence. The 'Canaries’ best opportunity fell to Mathias Normann right on the stroke of HT, but his half volley just went wide of the post, leaving the match scoreless at the break.
Unsurprisingly, it was a moment of magic from Raphinha that broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the restart. James’ big switch out towards the Brazilian was beautifully taken down first-time before he tricked his way past three players and found the net.
However, a minute and a half later, Norwich replied, Milot Rashica’s corner found the head of teenager Andrew Omobamidele to score his first goal for the club. This game took another crazy turn three minutes later - this time it was Norwich’s turn to switch off, sloppily giving the ball away to Rodrigo, who smashed the ball past Krul from the edge of the area.
In the space of five second-half minutes, three goals had been scored, leaving the scores at 2-1 to Leeds with twenty minutes left to play. Leeds looked desperate to secure their second Premier League win of the season, defending deep for the closing stages to see out the win. The result means Norwich will likely need a miracle to avoid relegation, despite playing just 10 games so far.
