Golden State Warriors of America veteran player, Andre Iguoadala showed again that age is nothing but a number, as he turned up in sensational fashion for his side in USA’s National Basketball Association (NBA) league.
The Nigerian-born ‘oldie,’ who is back with The Warriors after an unsuccessful stint with Miami Heat last tem, left many mouths wide agape, as he pulled off sensational moves and recorded points aplomb in aiding his side’s victory.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Iguodala stood out, as The Warriors improved to 7-1 to start the 2021-22 NBA season with a 126-85 thumping of the injury-ravaged New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night.
Once again, Iguodala showed why he is among the best in NBA history at coming off the bench and doing whatever is necessary for his team to perform as it must to assure victory.
This time out, it was a 126-85 rout of The Pelicans at Chase Center, where Iguodala’s purpose was to nourish the spiritual needs of his teammates, who were ripe for a letdown.
He ended up with six assists in his first 10 minutes, nine in 13 and a total of 10 in 17, thereby repeating his feat as the last member of the Warriors to record as many dimes off the bench on December 14, 2017.
This time out, Iguodala recorded the assist on four of five possessions, first a dime to Steph Curry, another for Gary Payton II and back-to-back dimes to Otto Porter Jr. for wide-open 3-pointers.
Fellow-Warriors’ star, Nemanja Bjelica, who finished with 13 points in 18 minutes off the bench, led the accolades for Iguodala’s 10 assists that make him the first Warriors’ player to reach that mark off the bench since the Nigerian-born ace set the same mark on that historic date in 2017.
Iguodala, who, alongside Curry, was an integral parts of The Warriors’ five-year run of NBA Finals appearances and the 73-win team in 2015-16, concluded that their current roster is a good team, adding: “We’re OK. We’re a work-in-progress.
“We’ve had a more favorable schedule, so I don’t think you look too much into it. We’re doing what we’re supposed to do. That says a lot.
“There’s a lot of talent in this league and you’ve seen some pretty interesting comebacks. I think there was a big one tonight, the Milwaukee-New York game.
“There is something to taking care of the games you’re supposed to take care of. So we’ve got to finish off the home stretch and continue to have the right mindset in terms of not looking at our record but looking at how we’re playing and how we’re improving through each game.”
