The Brazilian giants want Cavani to close out his club career in South America.
Off contract at United in June, Cavani has suggested he will hang up the boots after the World Cup later in 2022.
The Uruguay international could sign for Palmeiras and play out the domestic season before taking part in the Qatar tournament, reports the Daily Express.
Cavani, 34, scored his first goal of the season on Saturday in victory at Tottenham.
