Cyriel Dessers Declares Himself As Option For Nigeria At AFCON 2022

Feyenoord of Netherlands striker, Cyriel Dessers has declared himself as a useful option Nigeria would need at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, as he believes his current top form will come in handy for the Super Eagles, megasportsarena.com reports.

Although he is yet to play any competitive match since getting his debut in an international friendly against Tunisia two years ago, the former Hera les Almelo of Netherlands and Racing Genk of Belgium hitman believes he can settle in well with the Nigerian squad.

Indeed, his only appearance for the Eagles came in that game that ended in a 1-1 draw with Tunisia in October of 2020, but Dessers believes he is now in the right frame of mind, fitness and ability to don the green-and-white once again.

Now that he is back to raining goals, after suffering an unexpected blight due to the overwhelming presence of Paul Ebere Onuachu at Genk last, when he was there last season, Dessers is now looking on the brighter side of life.

The mulatto lad, who ditched his father’s country, Belgium, in preference for his mother’s nation, Nigeria, went on to declare that his international career is not over, added that he is still very much open to a return to the team.

The 26-year-old striker, who joined Feyenoord on a season-long loan deal from Genk this summer, told AOIFootball.com that he was excited to help his club gain another win against AZ Alkmaar and he is happy with his return to top form.

He is indeed enjoying his return to the Dutch Eredivisie, averaging a goal every 47 minutes in the league and hitting the net once in the UEFA Europa Conference League, such that he now hopes his form can convince Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr to hand him his full international debut.

Dessers declared with an air of enthusiasm: “For sure that hope is alive; if I’m back to my top form and scoring goals, I hope I can be an option for the Super Eagles.

“The competition is also very big, a lot of Nigerian strikers are doing very well around the European leagues, but the national team is the highest, so for sure I will always fight and hope for this.”
